Corral Canyon House
The Corral Canyon House is located on top of Corral Canyon, facing the Pacific Ocean. The client for this house is a Land Developer who commissioned bau10 to design five speculative houses along a road leading through the Canyon. The original 500 acres of undeveloped land was sold to the State of California in November 2008, and will now be forever preserved as parkland, with the exception of the Corral Canyon house site. The overall design concept derives from the idea of a village of forms, similar to Mediterranean villages. Five differently orientated volumes that are connected around an open patio define the house shape. All five volumes are carefully directed toward ocean, canyon and city views. The intimate and wind protected patio, which serves as a connection to all surrounding building volumes and as an outside living / dining room and also provides space for art, entertainment & plants, frames the view toward the ocean, overlooking the pool and deck. By placing the building volumes and patios slightly below the existing grade, the overall estate and the private driveway feel exclusively secluded, sheltered and private. The main house and guesthouse have a total of 6 bedrooms, 5 1/2 bathrooms and over 2,500 SF of outdoor patio space and terraces. This 7,212 SF single-family residence development, located within the Coastal Zone in Malibu, got a Building Permit in June 2009, and is currently under construction.
