Eco Case Study 1

Maximizing outside garden areas and inside connections drives the remodel of the existing Venice bungalow. The design of the house and outside areas, roof overhangs and building shape were inspired and driven by the surrounding gardens and their spatial interaction.  In contrast to the lush green surrounding the house is coated in black shiny stucco. The 1,800 SF Eco Case Study got completed in 2009 and is currently used as a vacation rental with three individual separated units. Each unit has its own special caracter and landscape theme. The different orientation and location  provides each place with the privacy needed.

The Eco Case Study house produces and supplies its own electricity by 100% photovoltaic and solar thermal panels power its radiant floor heating and hot water supply.  Since the building is insulated with high-energy efficient organic spray foam insulation and located close to the beach the owner and bau10 decided not to install HVAC.  Most of the timber used for constructing the remodel got reused and sustainable harvested.  The danish black oak hardwood floors are sustainble harvested.   All finishes are organic based and VOC free.

The installed appliances by Duravit, Bosch & Grohe are ecosmart and high efficient. The smart water use of the house through low flow fixtures, dual flush toilets, low irrigation landscaping and rain water reuse, and the installed reverse osmosis water filtration system guarantee a sustainable and responsible association with the environment.
