Furniture

This design for bau10’s office furniture challenges the conventional notions of system furniture, as kits of parts to be assembled at will to accommodate specific client needs. Much rather than designing each vast series of parts for later assembly the definition of a finite number of modules stands at the core of the design process.
Intentionally limiting the material selection to a small number of essential furniture materials such as manufactured boards, laminate, and steel each of these modules becomes associated with its specific, particular office task much rather than an arbitrary form. A desk, a storage area, a table are all designed to represent their function in a direct and literate manner. Choosing classic wood detailing and legible connections for all elements further expresses a timeless elegance that results out of the respect for the inherent qualities and capabilities of the chosen material while striving for the most plausible solution.

In its adaptation to a particular space or for a particular client or their type of business the furniture can then be adjusted to reflect these needs. For bau10 that meant the addition of a concrete countertop for the reception desk, a set of drawers custom fit for typical drawing sizes in the conference table, and a pullout drawer custom fitted for a printer.
