Malibu House study

The flat long stretched location on top of a ridgeline drove the form of the Malibu House Study, a long stretched bar enclosed with retractable glass walls due to the views from the exposed ridge line and clients request to have immediate access to the outside. By creating four patios and penetrating the roof plane, the bar interacts with the surrounding.  The ocean patio and horizontal shading device emphasizes and frames the ocean views, the interior garden and dining courtyard connects vertically to the roof deck of the house, the entry courtyard welcomes the arriving visitor and the narrow patio between two bedrooms connect the lower- and upper floor of the house.
A partially underground concrete detached guesthouse and pool deck ground the lightly constructed main building volume on the site.
