Corral Canal

Originally completed in 2009, this elegant modern home along the iconic Venice Canals underwent a comprehensive interior renovation in 2018. The client, having recently acquired the property, engaged us to reimagine the interiors to better reflect her lifestyle and spatial needs.

The design goal was to refresh and enhance the entire home, with targeted revisions to the first and second floors—most notably the transformation of the primary bedroom suite. The approach preserved key architectural elements while introducing contemporary comforts and a refined material palette.

On the first floor, the layout was opened up for improved flow and spatial clarity. Legacy ceiling soffits, previously housing a standard HVAC system, were removed and replaced with a decentralized mini-split system to achieve a clean, uninterrupted ceiling plane. To create a warm, ambient atmosphere, indirect lighting coves were integrated into the ceiling design and equipped with dimmers for full lighting control.

The second floor’s signature circular hallway was preserved and accentuated with new LED lighting details and a new skylight, enhancing natural illumination and architectural drama.

The primary suite was substantially upgraded, now featuring a connected bathroom and walk-in closet. A freestanding bathtub and steam shower were added to create a spa-like experience within the home.

The rooftop was reimagined as a serene outdoor retreat. A new wooden deck and integrated spa form the centerpiece of the space, while custom planter boxes introduce color, texture, and privacy. This elevated garden sanctuary offers a peaceful escape for sunbathing and relaxation.

Toward the canal side, the garden was revitalized with the addition of a new planter box and a sculptural fire dish, enhancing both privacy and outdoor livability.

This renovation balances sensitivity to the home’s original architectural character with carefully considered updates, resulting in a calm, modern, and personalized living environment.
