Alberta
Situated on a compact 3,140-square-foot corner lot in Venice Beach, the Alberta Avenue Project replaces a 1940s bungalow with two contemporary three-story single-family residences. Designed to maximize vertical space and coastal light, the project reimagines urban beach living through a lens of flexibility, sustainability, and sculptural form.
Each home features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, thoughtfully arranged to offer versatility and privacy. The ground-floor room is designed as a multifunctional space—easily adapted as a bedroom, home office, or media room—providing residents with a dynamic living environment.
The second floor is conceived as a light-filled great room with an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. A fireplace, built-in bench, and entertainment center are anchored by a warm Texan limestone accent wall, adding natural texture and material depth. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite in coastal breezes and daylight, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.
The third floor houses the master suite, defined by 13-foot vaulted ceilings and custom-built bathroom and closet elements. A third bedroom with en-suite bath completes the upper level. Above, a private rooftop deck crowns each residence, fully outfitted with a spa, fire dish, barbecue, and outdoor kitchen—an ideal space for entertaining and taking in expansive neighborhood views.
Clad in a reflective aluminum composite panel rain screen façade, the architecture captures and plays with sunlight, evoking the image of an open hand catching the sun. This gesture is both formal and poetic, tying the homes to their context in Venice’s ever-changing light and sky.
Sustainability is integral to the design, with features including solar water heating panels, ductless high-efficiency heat pumps, low-energy LED lighting, and water-conserving fixtures. Reconstituted wood and prefinished metal materials ensure durability and reduced environmental impact, while integrated planter boxes manage rainwater on-site and provide irrigation for lush rooftop and ground-level greenery.
The Alberta Avenue Residences are a forward-thinking response to compact urban infill—merging contemporary coastal living with architectural expression and environmental responsibility.
